The Storm
About a month ago I posted a few drawings that I did based on Clement Drew's 1886 Minot’s Light Northeast Gale with the idea to turn it into a stamp. This afternoon I carved my first attempt at it. Once I completed the scene I had used colored pencil to color in the light but thought that making an additional stamp for it would be better.
I might carve a second one but this time change the pattern in the clouds to not be a cross but more "cloud like".
Usually I draw the design on light paper and then using pressure, I transfer the design over to the carving block. For this stamp, I drew the design straight onto the block.
Next I carved out the interior.
On the left is a small print of 1886 Minot’s Light Northeast Gale that I got from the Lynn Museum and on the right is the carved stamp.
