Kakopetria
This afternoon we drove up to the mountains and stopped at Kakopetria. The town reminded me of a mix of Estes Park, before it got crowded, and Georgetown. There was a small downtown area with pedestrian walkways as well as shops and little restaurants. There was a river in the middle of the city.
Most of the day it was overcast and rained a little down in Nicosia. Luckily, it did not rain up in the mountains while we were up there.
Mountain Drive
After wandering around for about a half hour we got back in the car and continued to drive up the mountain. There are many parts in the mountains that reminded me of Colorado. I expected a single little hill but the roads and forest area are very similar.
Troodos
We stopped in a small village called Troodos. The highest peak in Cyprus, Mount Olympus was about 3km away but we didn't make it. Troodos was at around 1700 meters above sea level or a little over a mile.
We had drinks at a restaurant that reminded me of a small ski resort. Irene said she heard three different languages spoken.
There was upwards of two feet of snow in some places.
