Big Thompson River

Big Thompson River

We left work around 2:30pm today to make sure we got home safely. Our drive doesn't go over any bridges which is good because the majority of the bridges are closed. I25 is just to the right of this picture and it was closed from Highway 7 to the Wyoming border, about 70 miles.

If the Big Thompson name sounds familiar, it is because we were originally going to build our house in Thompson River Ranch. A zoomed in version of the panorama above shows where our house was built and where we would have lived had we gone through with it. From the looks of it, it doesn't look like the water has reached these homes, but on the other side of the development, there is a drainage ditch that was overflowing and going in between homes and into the street.

A zoomed out version of the photo from above.

Looking west towards the mountains and I25.

They closed I25 before we left this morning and when we drove over it this portion of the road was flooded completely over. This afternoon we drove by it and I got this picture. The water has decreased, but the State is worried about the integrity of the bridges. There is also more rain predicted on Sunday.

After we got home, we went over to our ditch to see how high it was.
