Union Meadows

Union Meadows

Michelle and I drove up to Copper Mountain today. I went skiing and Michelle did some shopping in Frisco. Currently, my car needs about $2000 of repairs and at this point we don't feel that it is worth fixing.

Since we carpool everyday to and from work, I have only driven my car a handful of times in the last 5 months. Second, it seems like every year I am putting more and more money into my car just to have it need more repairs. So for now, it will sit in the driveway until I decide what to do with it.

This picture was taken in Union Meadows at Copper Mountain. It is not an easy place to get to, it takes two lifts, but I think that is why the snow is always so good back here.

Copper Bowl

Copper Bowl

This is Copper Bowl and it is located on the North side of the mountain (see the map). As we were driving up I wasn't sure if I was going to ski since the wind was so strong. When I got out of the car, I made the decision to ski and the front side of the mountain was brutal. The wind was coming from the North and a few times I got a headache because of the wind.

After a few runs on the front side of the mountain, I went to the back side and the mountain provided an excellent wind breaker. I was able to ski Copper Bowl a few times before I headed to Union Meadows.

Last Run

Last Run

At three, Michelle came an picked me up. This was the last run of the day.

It Might be Time For New Skis.

It Might be Time For New Skis.

I was about half way down Copper Bowl and traveling quickly. I wasn't going my top speed, but I was going fast. I scanned the mountain below and saw nothing but white snow. As I was traveling I felt something jam into my right ski; ten feet later, the ski has released and I'm still going. I come to a crash/stop/sit down and take off my other ski. I climb up 15 feet and grab my ski and see a huge gash in it. I look up the mountain to see what could have caused it and I see nothing by white snow.

I'm going to take it into a ski shop tomorrow to see if it can be repaired. I will be skiing later this week so I hope a solution can be found soon.
