Lidl

Lidl

Lidl is a grocery store that is about a kilometer away from our house. We shop here about once a week for basic grocery things. It is right by Coffee Lab, which is the coffee shop where we buy coffee beans.

Lidl is a chain of stores that are all over the island.

Cart Deposit

Cart Deposit

Most stores that have carts make you deposit a coin into them to use it. At the end of your shopping trip, you return the cart and get your money back. After pushing in the coin, the key that connects to the previous cart is unlocked.

In the beginning, this was quite odd, and I assumed that it prevented people from stealing them. However, the cheapest coin it takes is 50 cents, so it isn't that much of a deterrent. It could also be an incentive to return the cart to the store to get your coin back. However, what ends up happening, is that one person leaves their cart in the middle of the parking lot, and then someone else connects their cart to it. All the carts end up together, but in the middle of the parking lot!
