I have been without a coffee grinder for about two weeks and have defiantly noticed a decreased quality in my coffee. Pre-ground coffee is usually oxidized and tastes like paper or cardboard. Yesterday my new hand crank grinder came in the mail.
I guessed on the setting of the grind and I think it was a bit too course. The water went through it quickly and it ended up being slightly watery. Tomorrow I will adjust the setting.
