USA Pro Challenge, Stage 6

USA Pro Challenge, Stage 6

The USA Pro Challenge, Stage 6 went about a mile south of our house today so we jumped on our bikes and went down to get a good view. I set my iphone up on a tripod and took photos with my still camera. If I had thought ahead, I would have borrowed a few cameras from work. The following photos were all taken at the same point.

Convoy

Convoy

Before the cyclists came through there was a convoy of different vehicles including race officials, photographers and many police in cars and on motorcycles.

I quickly switched to a different lens and started taking pictures. We were right next to the road and had a great vantage point!

Panning

Panning

I have never tried panning with a subject before; I am quite happy with the results!

Rest of the Pack

Rest of the Pack

I read a blog this morning that had a few tips on cycling photography, and panning, so I was more concerned about those settings that I forgot to change from RAW to JPG. RAW takes longer for my camera to process, so I wasn't able to take as many photos in a row as I would have liked. If I had been shooting in JPG, I would have been able to get more photos.

After the cyclists passed us, there was another convoy of cars with replacement bikes.

When we got back to the house, Michelle mentioned that one of the motorcycles almost hit my phone, I didn't think too much of it until I watched the video!
