Stanley Hotel

Stanley Hotel

Usually for our anniversary we go up to Copper Mountain and have dinner at the Covered Bridge Restaurant. However, this year, we have been sick so we decided not to take a trip for our anniversary and decided to go up to the Stanley Hotel. We took a tour in the afternoon and then came back for dinner.

Their guided tour took us through the hotel and into one of the adjacent buildings.

Over the years the Stanley Hotel has been sold and foreclosed on. When this happens, the land is sold first and then the furniture. As a result, there is not a lot of original furniture left. The bar in the back of the room is original, but only because it is connected to the wall and couldn't be sold easily.

The "wood" in the lobby of the hotel is actually plaster. Before Stephen King's The Shinning Miniseries , the hotel had been painted white and cream. But King thought this looked too much like a wedding cake and changed the walls. In the contract for the miniseries, it states that it can't be changed back until the hotel can prove that no one is visiting the hotel because of The Shinning.
