Little Brewster Island

Little Brewster Island

This morning we woke up early and checked out of our hotel. We left our luggage at the hotel and took the subway over to the wharf and got on a boat.

One of the things I wanted to get a picture of on this trip was a lighthouse, so why not get a picture of the oldest lighthouse site in America. This is Little Brewster Island.

There were about 20 people who visited the island, which was about half of what the tour could accommodate. The low number was nice because I was able to get a few photos with no people in them.

Stairs Up

Stairs Up

Groups of 5-6 were able to go up the stairs and then two latters to the top of lighthouse. Every 20 steps or so there was a window that looked a different direction.

View from the Top

From the top of the lighthouse you could see in all directions. There was a glass window in front of the view, which is why there are a few streaks on the photos.

Lens

Lens

Before going up we were told not to touch the lens. Inside the lens is a 1000 watt bulb that is magnified by a rotating lens. Every 10 seconds it looks like the lighthouse blinks, but actually what is happening is that every 10 seconds one of the lens matches up your direction.
