Dorchester

Dorchester

In the morning we took the train down to Dorchester to visit the place where Michelle's Great Grandparents lived. Michelle was going to make this trip by herself while I was at the conference but Dorchester isn't as nice as it used to be and a lot of people warned Michelle about visiting.

We took a nice route to the house and when we arrived we found two people working to restore the building! We chatted with them for a minute and Michelle showed them a picture of her Great Grandmother and one of the workers said he recognized the picture. They gave us the phone number of the owner of the house and Michelle gave them a call.

The house has been separated out into three apartments and the owner said that all were currently rented so we wouldn't be able to visit.

In the afternoon, we took the train north of Boston to Lynn, another town from Michelle's ancestry. Her ancestors who lived here made shoes and worked as electricians for GE. When GE moved out, the area went downhill, even some of the residences we talked to at a local museum didn't have a lot of pride.

After dinner, we had about an hour wait for the train and our waiter thought it would be save near the water. We wandered around the dock for a little bit before heading back to Boston.
