Hospitalization

Hospitalization

tl;dr: Brewer is staying at the hospital tonight so they can monitor his vitals and keep him hydrated.

Full Version: On Friday night, I gave Brewer his dinner when I got home. He lapped up all the water but didn't eat any of his food. This is very unusual for Brewer since he LOVES food. We noticed that he was drinking all the water we gave him. We didn't give him an excessive amount but more than he normally would.

When we got home from the wedding on Saturday, brewer had diarrhea and made a mess of himself. We hosed him off and got him cleaned up. He had eaten breakfast in the morning so we were hoping he was getting better. The vet's hours were from 8-2 so we were out of luck.

The vet was closed on Sunday as well. Brewer's mood had improved and we went on a walk to get frozen yogurt. On the way back, we noticed that Brewer had slowed, so I went home and got the car and picked Michelle and Brewer up.

This morning I called the vet and got an appointment for this afternoon. When I got home at 3, Brewer had diarrhea again and wanted to drink as much water as possible. I drove brewer to the vet, however, before we got there he threw up in my car.

The vet basically told us that Brewer was dehydrated and that his system can't process any liquids he ingests. Basically, he would drink as much as he could, and it wouldn't help. They put him on an IV and got fluids into him. They suggested taking him to the hospital down the road so they can continue giving him fluids and monitor him over night.

Tomorrow morning we will pick him up at 7:30 and take him back to the vet where he will stay for the rest of the day.

This first photo shows pockets of air in his digestion track.
