First Run of the Day

First Run of the Day

We woke up today and went to the Copper Mountain Chapel for church, and then went out skiing. The mountain received around 11 inches of powder the night before and it was still snowing. Because of the amount of fresh snow on the hill, it was difficult to gage the snow conditions.

You can see Michelle in the lower right side of the photo. About 1/2 mile down the hill, Michelle fell and her left ski ejected (like it was supposed to). Unfortunately, her right ski did not eject and it got twisted behind her. I skied back up to her, and manually ejected the ski. Next we had someone go get ski patrol for us, and Michelle was taken to the Copper Emergency Room.

Michelle didn't break any bones, but the doctors do think she tore her ACL. We have a doctors appointment for Wednesday in Northern Colorado to find out.

The doctors weren't sure if she fractured her Tibia; there is a line under the joint that could be a fracture or a just a growth plate. Michelle's aunt, who used to be a nurse, said that if it was a fracture, it would continue hurting. It seems to be feeling better if no weight is placed on it, but again, we won't know until Wednesday.

Later in the evening, we went to Walmart and bought some "spikes" for Michelle's crutches. These will help provide traction in the snow and ice.
