Helping Out

Helping Out

I haven't posted any photos the past few days; mostly, because I haven't taken any. Today, I woke up at 5:30am to go help out at the Grimm Brothers Brewery in Loveland. We brewed a Smoked Porter that should be ready in a few weeks. It was a lot of fun and I learned quite a bit. Hopefully I will be able to help out again.

In this picture, I am clearing out the grains from the Mash Tun. We made 11 barrels (2 kegs per barrel, and about 33 gallons per keg) which used over 200lbs of grains.

Update: on 9/26 I added a few extra pictures.

Mashing

Mashing

Mashing is a process where the grains are steeped to extract out the sugars. The modified keg in the foreground is used to prevent any particles from going back in the mash tun.

Washing and sanitizing the fermenter.
